Sanuki Udon - the must try House special egg udon
Years ago, I was introduced to house egg special at Sanuki Udon, Taman Desa. This dish is best served warm. The yummy egg yolk will blend really well with the slightly salted meat dashi stock, udon will be springy and chewy. It will be satisfying at the end of the very economical meal. *slurpp*
From Wikipedia,
Sanuki udon is a type of udon noodle most popular in the Shikoku region, but is now easily found throughout the neighboring Kansai region and much of Japan. It is characterized by its square shape and flat edges.
Taman Desa's Sanuki Udon is the best udon (consistency wise) in Malaysia that I have tasted by far. The owner is Japanese (really buff and toned guy) and you get to checkout the Japanese folks who frequents the shop. Since the owner do regularly go over, you can be sure the quality is about assured.

What is house egg special? Poached egg with the udon in a little dashi-based broth. (which is yummy when you mix it with the egg) garnished with some scallion. Best yet, it is only RM 5.
How I makan? I burst the egg! (I am not an egg yolk person but for this, I add an exception cause the yolk is very nicely covered by the dashi.
This consistency of the dashi stock and the egg is bubbly yummy goodness! It is slightly salty, yet a little faint meat flavour to go with the egg.
To which I will add the chilli. Now the chilli is a great enhancer to this dish. Sanuki Udon will already place a chilli paste (dried chilli, chilli oil and anchovies) , to that I add the soy sauce, and last but not least, the chilli powder. It is very important to not simply throw in any chilli powder. I tried another chilli powder (which had fragrance) at another shop and it totally spoilt the simple flavour of the udon and stock.
For a more rich texture and flavour, I add wakame (add on for only RM 1). Seaweed is known to have an estrogen boost, so it's good for woman! :P
It also adds on to the "sea" flavour of the dashi stock.
I ordered green tea (RM 1 - refillable) , Kakiage (carrots, green onions deep fried, RM 3), Karaage (chicken fillet - RM 3, for 3 cube cutlets of chicken) and wakame (seaweed RM 1)
Ini lah kakiage saya, they usually cut into 4 pieces
My must-have wakame!
The cute deep fried cutlets of chicken (deboned)
They are closed on mondays ya. I do also recommend :
i) the cabbage salad with wasabi dressing - RM 3
ii) edamame - RM 3(please ask to heat it up, it will be nicer. They also put salt on their edamame, which is a great practice)
iii) all of their meat BBQ that will only start in the evening.
oishiiii!
